Masses best observers to monitor elections: Shujaat
By Khalid Amin

ISLAMABAD—PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said no one other than people are better observer to monitor elections.
“The observers have not to monitor the election. It is the people and media, which have to monitor the elections. People are the best observers in monitoring the elections”, he said this while talking to a 4-member observers mission of European Union (EU), which met him in Muslim League House here, Monday. Mushahid Hussain Syed, leader of the house in senate Waseem Sajjad, Tariq Azeem and Imtiaz Ranjha were also present on the occasion.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain told 98 percent PML-Q workers were ready for contesting elections on January 8. “We are fully prepared for elections no matter if it takes place on January, 6”, he added. The election commission has to decide about the date of elections, he remarked. Responding to a question he said, “we will ask the government let the election commission decide. Whatever decision it takes, will be acceptable to us”. The hue and cry being raised by the political parties on polls rigging is beyond comprehension; he said adding people have to give decision on polling day. Their decision should be accepted by all political parties.
He told “ we were the first of all to express sorrow l on TV on the martyrdom of Benazir Bhutto. We expressed grief and sorrow in print media. PML-Q delegation intends to visit Noudero to express condolence. But we will take any decision after looking into the situation”, he added. “I am much grieved over press conference organized by Asif Zardari. He has insulted Quaid-e-Azam. We are peace loving people and don’t want to create any situation for confrontation”, he underlined.
Observer’s mission chief said “We are working as election observers in Pakistan and are meeting with heads of political parties. We are of unanimous opinion that elections should be held at every cost. However election commission will decide about the date for elections.
We will welcome what date is fixed. We have come here as observers and not come for formulation of policy of any country”. He stressed elections should be held in fair and transparent manner. The date of the election can be changed but polls cannot be postponed, he added. “We can not give any recommendation to election commission with reference to date of elections.
