Only 74 decisions pending: FBR
By Khalid Amin
ISLAMABAD—Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Monday clarified a news item
appearing in a section of the press under caption “ No one listens to
Tax Ombudsman”.
The news item is misleading and has been quoted with incomplete and
distorted facts, said an FBR press release.
The factual position is that all the decisions containing
findings/recommendations of the FTO where maladministration is
established are implemented forthwith unless representation is made in
terms of Section 12 of the Establishment of FTO Office Ordinance, 2000,
to the Honorable President of Pakistan.
Such orders are implemented on receipt of the President’s decision, as
required under the law. A full-fledged Section in the FBR meats
requirements of the decisions/orders of the FTO and field offices also
comply.
The statistics show that out of 1274 complaints decided, implementation
of only 74 are left pending. The FTO was established to identify the
“maladministration” in the tax departments and in this matter, where the
FTO recommends disciplinary action against the officer(s) same is
initiated forthwith.
The FTO institution has greatly contributed to the image building of the
FBR by suggesting improvements and by attending to the complaints of the
taxpayers. The FTO is not, however, another forum for appeal against the
decisions to tax assessments etc. |
