Most of CNG stations opened
RAWALPINDI—After two days of violence against assassination of Pakistan
Peoples Party (PPP) Benazir Bhutto, most of the CNG stations situated in
internal areas of city have resumed their work in Rawalpindi putting the
miseries of motorists to end.
There was long queue of vehicles especially taxi being witnessed at
Compressed Natural Gas CNG) stations of Rawalpindi while the consumers
complained availability low gas pressure. The owners of CNG stations
have put up PPP’s flag to express solidarity with Bhutto family and
Party activists.
On the other hand, Petrol pumps were giving a deserted look for last two
days. Covered with tents, these filling stations were not selling
petrol, diesel and other oil products. Due to continue strike by Petrol
pump stations, people are facing great hardships. It may be mentioned
here that one of the reasons behind keeping filling stations closed was
fear factor prevailing in the city following unmerciful assassination of
Benazir.
The owners of petroleum pumps have suffered huge losses as the sale of
various fuels has come almost to a halt during the last three days in
Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, as public transporters put their vehicles off
roads a day after the assassination Benazir Bhutto for fear of riots,
taxi drivers were quick to cash in on the situation and upped fare
manifold.
Roads wore a deserted but scary look. People preferred staying indoors.
Nonetheless, thin traffic was witnessed on major roads. In the absence
of public transport, taxis were the only option for people to move. Most
taxi drivers opted to stay indoors but some were out to get as much fare
as they wished.—Online |
