Suicide bombers killed in abortive attack

BAHAWALNAGAR—Two suicide bombers were blown to pieces when they tried to transport a 5-kilo explosive materiel towards the residence of former minister for religious affairs Ejaz-Ul-Haq. The former religious affairs’ minister Ejaz-Ul-Haq was residing in his Bahawalnagar residence in connection with the campaign of the forthcoming general election, when pillion riders tried to sneak an explosive device, intended for using it on his residence.
DPO, Bahawalnagar, Zafar Abbas Bukhari informed the media that the prematurely exploded devise at only 250 meters away from former minister’s residence was so powerful that body pieces of the suicide bombers were scattered over a vast area and nearby buildings also sustained heavy damage. The DPO also informed that body parts and bomb pieces of the suicide bombers have also been collected and the motorcycle they were using was also impounded.
He also said that it was quite premature to determine whether the explosives were intended to be used on Ejaz-ul-Haq’s residence or at the funeral prayers-in-absentia. Two other armed persons were also arrested in the locality soon after the explosion and were being investigated, while dead bodies have been sent over to hospital for post mortem. —Agencies
