Damage worth billions of rupees occurred to railways network

ISLAMABAD—Interim Federal Minister for Railways, Mansoor Tariq has said
that damage worth billions of rupees was made to the railway property by
the miscreants in the country, specially in Sindh.
Talking to newsmen he said these miscreants in the disguise of protest
over sad demise of Benazir Bhutto, damaged railway property and network.
Mansoor Tariq said that the whole nation was shocked over the sudden
death of Benazir Bhutto. He and other members of the cabinet also shared
the grief of Peoples Party and a meeting of federal cabinet on Friday
condemned the sad incident and expressed profound shock and grief over
the sad demise of Benazir Bhutto.He said that the incident was a
conspiracy against the country and democracy.
About the extent of damage caused, he said it would take about 20 to 30
days to make the railways system operational. They burnt about five
trains in Karachi. The whole system collapsed in Sukkar. The miscreants
damaged production store room in Sukkar,and took away material from
there. They also damaged a rehabilitation track from Karachi to Lahore,
he said.
He added that one engine was worth crore of rupees. Also the bogeys were
set on fire, besides great damage to the railway track.
The Minister said that the railways has to start the rehabilitation
work.But the workers were afraid of going to field for repair work.
The minister said that the miscreants damaged tracks, and bridges, set
wooden track on bridges on fire. Now, the train could not pass through
this damaged bridge.The Minister said that all stations of Karachi have
been closed. The Sukkar station has also stopped functioning while Tando
Adam was also damaged.
The Minister said that the passangers were the worst sufferers of this
tragedy as they have been stranded. The railway had to pay them money of
fare back. He said that with this enormous damage, transportation of
passangers was not possible. Besides the railways, the people of Sindh
were also affected. Now they would not be able to travel through
Railways for a long time.
Railways Minister said the miscreants were creating great trouble for
the people. As a result of the subversive activities the trains have
stopped.
Vested elements and miscreants were damaging the Railway network and
taking undue advantage of the situation. He also appealed to the people
of Sindh to be aware of such elements, and not allow more damge by
miscreants to railways.
He said that on their request, the Army was called to maintain peace and
order. The situation has relatively been under control.
Railways Minister appealed the people not to allow the miscreants to do
more damage to railway network. He said that railways was already
running in loss and this damage has added much to it. |
