Role of Musalihat Anjumans lauded

ISLAMABAD—Musalihat Anjumans (MAs) are doing a commendable job in providing effective justice to the common people at grassroots level.
This was stated by Khalid Maqbool, Governor Punjabduring a meeting held to discuss the goals achieved through establishing Musalihat Anjumans across the country.
Terming Gender Justice Through Musalihat AnjumanProject (GJTMAP) an excellent example of community involvement, Khalid Maqbool assured full and all out support from Punjab government. The Governor was briefed by Muhammad Saleem Khan,Federal Secretary Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development about the Project’s background, its objectives, achievements and institutional arrangements, especially with reference to the Punjab province. The secretary apprised the Governor that theproject is being implemented by MoLG & RD, in collaboration with UNDP, in 20 different districts (five in each province) all over the country.
In Punjab, 409 MAs have been formed out of total of418 Union Councils (98%) with women representation in 342 MAs (84%). Out of 3,769 cases received in Punjab, 2,255 cases have been amicably resolved, he said. Now cases are being referred by Judiciary, Police and other government agencies in the five selected districts.
Muhammad Saleem directed the Provincial Secretary, LG & RD to call a meeting of all concerned DCOs and DPOs at the earliest for progress review and to provide impetus to work on MAs.
