NCA warns against needless nuke alarm

RAWALPINDI—The National Command Authority (NCA) Friday cautioned against those contemplating any “misadventure” saying Pakistan was fully capable of defending its interests.
The NCA meeting here was chaired by President Pervez Musharraf and attended by caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid, Services Chiefs and senior military officers and scientists. The meeting took note of the hostile campaign in a sectionof international media regarding Pakistan’s nuclear assets and reiterated that their security was “foolproof” and advised against creating irresponsible alarm.
The NCA also reviewed development of various projectsrelated to the country’s strategic capability and expressed
satisfaction over the pace of development, said a statement released by the Inter Services Public Relations said. The meeting also approved a number of proposals for strengthening the deterrence capability of the country.
The NCA is mandated to have complete command and controlover research, development, production and use of nuclear and space technologies and to ensure security and safety of nuclear establishments and nuclear materials. The meeting came a day after the promulgation of an ordinance to establish the NCA, that has already been working since Feb 2, 2000. While reiterating that the security of Pakistan’s nuclear assets was fool proof, President Musharraf on Friday said Pakistan was capable of defending its interests and cautioned those contemplating misadventures. President Musharraf expressed these views while chairing the National Command Authority (NCA) meeting held in Rawalpindi on Friday.
Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammadmian Soomro, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Tariq Majid, Services Chiefs, senior military officers and scientists were also present. According to ISPR, The National Command Authority (NCA) reviewed development of various projects related to Pakistan’s strategic capability and expressed its satisfaction over the pace of development.
It also approved a number of proposals for strengthening the deterrence capability of the country. The National Command Authority (NCA) took note of the hostile campaign in a section of the international media with regard to Pakistan’s nuclear assets.
Military Sources reveal that while addressing in the meeting President was of the view that our nuclear assets are in safe hands urging we will not let anyone cast evil eye on it. Pakistan is a responsible nuclear state and we very well know how to safeguard our Nuclear Assets, he maintained. He made it clear that foreign Media is trying to give a false image in this regard stressing that there is no question whatsoever of our Nuclear Assets going in wrong hands.
