Gas supply to industries stopped due to high demand
By Asad Cheema
ISLAMABAD—General Manager of Sui Northern Gas Company Limited, Muhammad
Ismail Paracha has held responsible the unprecedented increase in gas
demand in winter for the stoppage of Gas Supply to the industries.
Explaining the reasons behind the suspension in gas supply and low
pressure in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, General Manager
of SNGL in a press conference here on Friday said that increase in
demand of Gas and its less production are the main reasons of low gas
pressure.
General Manager SNGL said that daily gas demand of the areas ranging
from Jhelum to Attock including Rawalpindi-Islamabad is 400 million
cubic feet while the supply of gas is 250 million cubic feet. He
informed that gas was explored in Karak (NWFP) where over 200 million
cubic gas would be explored.
Muhammad Ismail Paracha, however, said that at the moment, the demand is
one billion cubic feet.
General Manager SNGL said that at present gas supply to 18 steel mills
and 8 cement plants has been stopped by SNGL while half gas is being
provided to several industries aimed to meet the domestic demands.
Manager SNGL urged the masses to use Gas Heaters and Geezers properly as
it is not possible for us to carryout Gas Load shedding like Wapda do,
adding GAS Load Shedding is dangerous and can cause any unfortunate
incident. |
