Family to flourish social values in society
ISLAMABAD—Family being a basic unit of the society must be restored by
practising noble social values.
These views were expressed by Prof Dr. Najeeb A Khan, Dean Faculty of
Social Sciences while addressing the two-day workshop "Gender, Equality,
Islam and Development in context of Pakistani Society". The workshop was
jointly organised by Department of Women Studies, AIOU in collaboration
with NGOs including RAHM and CIDA.
Dr. Najeeb said that Islam stressed the need to establish perfect social
environment to eradicate menace of social injustice, instability of
women rights and inequality in society. Mahmood Gailani, head of RAHM
said Islam is a religion that provides protection of women rights
separately along with human rights.
In the 21st century, women are fully aware of their rights and duties.
They are getting good jobs on merit and showing remarkable results in
every field of life. Dr. Riffat Haq, Incharge Department of Women
Studies said on the occasion that it is difficult to get women rights in
Muslim societies although equal rights for women and men are clearly
mentioned in the Holy Quran. Prof. Sharif-ul Mujahid, journalist/
historian threw light on women rights and social equality. Dr. Riffat
Naz Rehman, Dr. Farooq Khan and Noreen Mujahid also addressed the
