Pakistan offers skilled manpower to Brunei

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Minister for Education Shamsh Kassim-Lakha said on Thursday a review of the National Education policy is being carried out by an independent team of the consultants who have visited six districts of each province and discussed different aspects with stockholders.
Addressing the Presidential Awards Ceremony 2006 here he said that the ministry has undertaken reforms and restructuring of the educational system, to bring it in conformity with the requirements of the future. He said Pakistan government was fully committed to the slogan “education for all” and equality education at all levels. Kassim Lakha said at the national level Rs 293 billion have been spent during the last two years for the development of education and this expenditure has increased from 1.92 percent of GDP in 2005-06 to 2.42 percent in 2006-07.
He said education plays an important role in the development of any nation and in today’s highly competitive world, the education system should aim at creating individuals, who seek the truth and knowledge and who are disciplined, productive and enlightened citizens, committed to creating a civil society that respects diversity of views, beliefs and faiths. They should be capable of facing any challenge that the 21st century is likely to pose to the nation, he added.
Federal Minister for Education distributed presidential awards among 35 teachers and students from across the country in recognition of their outstanding performance.
The prestigious single award of this year, Izaz-i-Kamal with a cash grant of Rs 100,000 was given to Dr. Shazia Anjum of Karachi University on her extraordinary performance in the field of science while the other six awards of Izaz-i-Fazeelat were given to teachers and 28 awards of Izaz-i-Sabqat were conferred on students selected from different parts of the country.
