Education Minister to confer Presidential Awards today

ISLAMABAD—Education Minister would confer Presidential Awards to thirty five outstanding teachers and students across the country on Thursday.
The awards would be given in recognition of theiracademic distinction and outstanding performance in various categories, spokesman of Education Ministry said today.
Federal Minister for Education, Science andTechnology, Dr. Shamsh Kassim Lakha would confer these awards on behalf of the President. These awards were announced on August 14 this year carrying cash grant, medal and a certificate duly signed by the President.
The initiative of conferring these PresidentialAwards had been taken by President Pervez Musharraf to encourage individuals to bring excellence in the education sector of the country. Besides, annualTeacher’s Day is celebrated every year with commitment togive due respect to the teaching community.
The most prestigious single award of Izaz-e-Kamalhaving Rs. 100,000 will be conferred on Dr. Shazia Anjum, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, University of Karachion her extraordinary performance in field of Science.
Other six awardees of Izaz-i-Fazeelat having cash prize of Rs. 25,000 have been selected from the four provinces, AJK, FATA or FANA on the basis of theirmeritorious performance in bringing improvement in curricular activities, promotion of female education in rural areas and other related activities.
Another award of Izaz-i-Sabqat having cash prize of Rs. 15,000 would be conferred on 28 students hailing fromthe four provinces, AJK, FATA, FANA and ICT on their cumulative educational performance.
Prominent educationist, recipients of awards and other dignitaries would attend the ceremony. Thirty five (35) outstanding teachers and students across Pakistan would receive the Presidential Awards on Thursday in recognition of their academic distinction and outstanding performance in various categories, spokesman of the education ministry said today.
