Journalist Asghar Ali Mubarak allowed to contest polls from NA-54

RAWALPINDI— The Election Tribunal heard two appeals here on Tuesday. It allowed Asghar Ali Mubarak renowned Pakistani journalist from Rawalpindi Cantt to contest elections from NA-54.
Asghar Ali Mubarak had filed a petition before the Election Tribunal Mr. Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha & Mr. Justice Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah of Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench as returning officer had rejected his nomination papers, stating that the name of his seconder and proposer were enlisted in two National Assembly constituencies - NA-54 and 55.
The tribunal asked the district election commission office to explain Vie status of voters who proposed the nomination of Asghar Ali Mubarak. On its verification that both persons who proposed the nomination of Asghar Ali Mubarak are enlisted in NA-54, the tribunal allowed him to contest the forthcoming general elections.
In another appeal, the tribunal re-listed the case of Akhtar Hussain for today. The court would take up the case on its next hearing under the same allegation. The main allegation against Akhtar Hussain was that he had not resigned from the office of union council nazim. He was also accused of non-payment of income tax dues. Akhtar Hussain is contesting elections from PP-21, Chakwal.
