Aziz welcomes PML-N decision to participate in elections
ISLAMABAD—Welcoming the decision of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz to
participate in the next general elections, former Prime Minster Shaukat
Aziz has said that it would further enhance the credibility of
elections.
Pakistan is proud of its participation in Reforms Programme of the
United Nations and expressed the hope that it would bring development,
peace and prosperity in the world.
The former Prime Minister was talking with Resident Coordinator of the
United Nations, Jan Bandam Vortali and Chairman Pakistan Awami Party
(PAP) Fanoos Gujar who called on him in his residence on Tuesday.
Talking to UN Resident Coordinator during farewell meeting, Shaukat Aziz
has paid great tributes to UN and its attached departments for their
services in the relief and rehabilitation activities in areas affected
by devastating October 8, 2005 earthquake.
Praising the role of UN Resident Coordinator, the former Prime Minister
said that the role rendered by UN in the quake-hit areas of Pakistan
would be remembered forever.
He said that Pakistan has set an example by providing a platform to all
the donor organisations and faced the tragedy of such high intensity
effectively. National Disaster Management Authority has been established
aimed to minimize the level of natural calamities, adding all possible
facilities are being provided to affected people.
Shaukat Aziz on the occasion said that he is proud that he was head of
the committee established for making reforms and reorganization in the
United Nations and the committee also included Norway and Mozambique
presented effective recommendations.
The former Prime Minister informed that these recommendations are being
implemented in 7 countries including Pakistan, adding that the
implementation would improve the performance of UN Programme.
He said that Pakistan wants effective UN Role in world affairs and as a
responsible country would continue its cooperation with the
international body and express the hope that the UN would expand its
programmes in Pakistan. Pakistan Army is playing vibrant role in UN
Peace Mission, added by the former Prime Minister.
Later talking to Chairman PAP, Fanoos Gujar, the former Prime Minister
has stressed all the political parities to participate in elections and
expressed the hope that free, fair and transparent elections would
strengthen the democracy.
Highlighting the achievements in the last eight years, Shaukat Aziz said
that the reforms and the development process are a record but a lot of
work has to be done. The next Government should continue to persuade the
on-going policies for making sure the strong economy and prosperity and
development, he added.
Fanoos Gujar on the occasion praising the three year performance of
former Prime Minister and reforms introduced by him (Shaukat). |
