Two day workshop on CEDAW implementation today

ISLAMABAD—The Ministry of Women Development (MoWD) will hold a workshop to have an intensive interactive consultation on the implementation of Convention on Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
The workshop will be jointly organised by MoWD in collaboration with United Nations International Fund for Women Empowerment (Unifem).
The two day inter-ministerial training aims to evolve a detailed work plan for effective implementation of strategies to eliminate discrimination against women.
CEDAW, Project Coordinator, Syed Zafar Mahmood told APP that senior management of different ministries, including law and justice, finance, planning, interior and labour and manpower in addition to representatives of the provincial government from related department would attend the event. "It will be a gathering of 60 representatives from senior levels, " he added.
It would be a comprehensive beginning to chalk out an effective action plan. To give the participant a better understanding of the legal status of the Convention, a briefing will also be arranged which is to be conducted by the Research Society on International Law, an intellectual and updated international organization, said Zafar.
"A meeting will also be arranged with the civil society representative in order to take them into confidence and evolve a joint strategy," he said.
