Staff Report

ISLAMABAD—Chief of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) Maulana Fazal-ul-Rehman on Monday said that Jamat-e-Islami should review its decision of boycott from the upcoming general elections. “I will ask Qazi Hussain Ahmad to review his decision of boycott from the general elections as there is no need of adopting a separate way in the country’s politics,” JUI-F Chief said while addressing a press conference.
He said participation in election process is basically a part of routine politics, adding, all parties must follow this routine practice in the country’s politics. He said MMA’s meeting to be held on Tuesday will discuss the situation created after the APDM’s last meeting held in Lahore and will ask the participants to look into the major decision of parties.
“We will try to stop others boycotting from elections as this is way of isolation,” Maulana Fazal-ul-Rehman said. He said all political parties of the country must participate in election process as objectives can be achieved by adopting democratic attitude. He termed the holding of election as part of political system. Replying to a question he said “We were ready to have seat to seat adjustment with opposition parities including PPP however they (PPP) were not serious in this regard and gave negative statements in press.” He added JUI will not make any seat adjustment with any political party in NWFP and Balochistan however he added seat adjustment may possible at local level. He said JUI candidates may decide about seat adjustments with local parties with their own choice.
“If we were ready to have seat adjustment with PPP and PML (N) than why not with PML (Q)”, he replied responding to a question whether JUI can make seat adjustment with PML (Q). Giving details of his meeting with ambassadors of Muslim countries Maulana Fazal-ul-Rehman said the ambassadors termed the holding of general elections as positive step in the country’s politics.
Maulana Fazal-ul-Rehman said ambassadors of Muslim countries have expressed their desire to see Pakistan politically and economically stable country and hoped that political parties will show mutual accord and harmony.
