Govt committed to remain neutral in elections, says Memon

ISLAMABAD—Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon has urged the officers of the ministry to observe neutrality and work diligently to project the image of the country dispelling all the negative perceptions.
He was addressing the Officers of the Information Service attached as publicity/public relations officers with different ministries and departments here on Monday.
The Minister observed that the objective of the caretaker government is to provide an enabling environment to hold free, fair and transparent elections. “The caretaker government is fully committed to remain neutral during the electioneering process for holding of free, fair and transparent polls in a secure environment,” he said.
“The professional obligation of the officers of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is to uphold the national interest as their prime duty,” he said. Secretary for Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Syed Anwar Mahmood, , Principal Information Officer Rashid Ahmad and other senior officers of the Ministry were also present in the meeting. Add agencies, In an interview with state run radio station here on Monday, he said that the Election Commission is responsible to conduct the elections and caretaker government will provide all assistance to the Commission to accomplish the task in time.
He said that government has provided level paying field to all the political parties in the election process. Government, he said, has allowed the leadership of the two major political parties to return home and take part in the electioneering. He said there is no restriction on them and they are free to move throughout the country. The Minister also appreciated the decision of PML (N) to contest the upcoming elections and expressed the hope that those parties which are thinking for boycott would realize the situation and take part in the polls.
