Disgruntled candidates deserting JI

ISLAMABAD—Cracks have started appearing in Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) following the announcement of election boycott by Qazi Hussain Ahmad amid the reports majority of JI workers and leaders are in favor of contesting elections.
Sources told Online Monday, JI Central Executive Council (C EC) met in Lahore on Sunday. 50 percent of CEC members were supportive of participating in the elections and the remaining half were in favour of boycott. However Qazi Hussain Ahmad announced to boycott the elections. Sources informed this announcement had caused despair among the JI workers and leaders particularly those who had filed nomination papers, as majority among them was desirous of contesting the election.
Sources indicated the boycott announcement had led JI to fragmentation as JI Rawalpindi noted leader and candidate for national assembly Hanif Abbasi wanted to contest election at every cost and he had refused to withdraw his papers. Like wise the candidates of the areas where JI position was strong were not in favor of boycott.—Online
