8 militants killed, 22 arrested in Swat

ISLAMABAD—Security forces have arrested upto 22 militants from Mingora and Matta areas of District Swat on Friday.
Director General ISPR Major General Waheed Arshad told APP that militants were arrested while they were trying to flee from the area.
He said those apprehended were accomplices of Mullah Fazlullah and were involved in subversive activities. General Waheed said there were reports that local people had started demolishing houses and sanctuaries used by the militants.
He said militants had been trying to mingle with the local people to avoid arrest.
The DG ISPR said local people had refused to give shelter to the militants and were helping security forces to identify the militants. Director General ISPR Major General Waheed Arshad on Friday confirmed that 8 militants have been killed and 4 arrested during firing in Miranshah.
While talking to Journalists, ISPR Spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said that some unknown militants attacked a convoy of Security forces in Miranshah.
However on retaliation, Security forces killed 8 militants and arrested four.
He further added that Security Forces have taken in possession rocket launchers, Klashinkoves and other explosives from the arrested militants.
The locals have started to demolish the houses of miscreants after getting control of Matta and Khaza Khela by Pakistan Army while district administration has also began its work.
The local people while talking to media on Friday told that police has started to establish check posts in the area with the cooperation of Frontier Corps.
They said that local people are fed up of the violence of miscreants and took a sigh of relief after getting control of the area by Pakistan Army because the miscreants had illegally occupied the properties of local peoples.
They further said that all the schools of the area were closed and law and order situation of the area was deteriorated. Due to success of law enforcement agencies the locals took sigh of relief and started to destroy the hideouts of miscreants and the condition of law and order situation in the area is improving day by day.
They added that locals warmly welcomed the personnel of law enforcement agencies and garlanded them because security forces initiated every possible measures for the welfare of the people of that area and wiped out the area from miscreants.
The NWFP Governor, Lt. Gen. ® Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai has eulogized the role of the peace loving people of Swat during the recent operation.
Addressing the elders of Swat during his a day long visit to Mangora; the district headquarter of Swat on Friday, the Governor said, “in fact the situation confronted in the peaceful areas like FATA and Swat are the off shoots of the developments took place across the border in the wake of the 9/11 incidence.—Agencies
