European envoys call on Nawaz

LAHORE—Ambassadors of three european countries - France, Spain and Sweden- met chief of PML(N) andformer prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif at his residence at Raiwind on Friday and exchanged views with him on political situation in Pakistan with special reference to next general elections.
According to PML(N) sources, Nawaz Sharif told them about the concerns of his party and said that free,fair and transparent elections cannot be expected without restoration of judiciary to pre November 3 status. He said European Union and international community should play its role to ensure the holding of elections in Pakistan in transparent manner.
He also told them about the concerns of opposition parties regarding caretaker governments and election commission and said nomination papers of his and his brother Shahbaz Sharif have been rejected to keep them out of election process. The ambassadors said that international community including European Union want that election in Pakistan be held in free and fair manner and all political parties should participate in it and government provide them level playing field.
The matter of sending of observers by EU for monitoring elections also came under discussion and Nawaz Sharif informed them of his Party’s view point in this regard. Envoys of France, Spain and Sweden have called on former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwand farm Imra Jati here Friday and discussed set of issues ranging from upcoming general elections, regional and international issues to matters of mutual interest. Mian Nawaz Sharif observed role played by European Union (EU) for revival of democratic norms in Pakistan was very vital adding EU had taken major steps for restoration of democracy in Pakistan.
