Fazal vows to
field candidates on JI seats
By Asghar Ali Mubarak
ISLAMABAD—MMA’s decision to participate in the ensuing elections was
final, as JUI workers have been asked to gear up the electioneering
campaign, Secretary General MMA Maulana Fazalur Rehman said.
Talking to newsmen, he said JUI is part of MMA and it will not boycott
the elections under any circumstances. JUI will remain intact and will
field its own candidates on Jamaat-e-Islami seats, even if they decide
to boycott.
Boycott would definitely prove a big mistake like resignations from the
assemblies in the past. People who follow the decision of APDM’s boycott
were not on the path of MMA, he said.
Some powers want postponement of elections. Let the people beallowed to
choose their representatives, he observed.
“There is no atmosphere favouring boycott. Politics shouldmove towards
reconciliation and avoid agitation and violence,” he added.
The MMA supreme council had decided that only unanimousboycott decision
can prove effective. The supreme council also approved the MMA manifesto
and talk of boycott by JI wasastonishing, he said.
In APDM-ARD Charter of Demands (CoDs) drafting committee, Professor
Khurshid Ahmed represents JI and not MMA, he informed while replying to
a question.
MMA was formed to clear perception of muslims in general andUlema in
particular that they are not extremists and can do politics through
peaceful means, he added. Maulana Fazalur Rehman said “Qazi Hussain
Ahmed use to adviseme to adopt reconciliatory attitude, but now I’m
astonished that hehas chosen the extreme path.” “Qazi should not leave
his companions alone and avoid negativepolitics,” he suggested.
Responding to a query he said, JUI had suspended its membership from
APDM on October 5. To another question, Maulanasaid that in London APC
conference JUI and other parties wereinvited on party basis, and not on
behalf of MMA.
About other component parties of MMA he said they are with JUIand
participated in parliamentary board meeting the other day. JI was alone
on the defiance path.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) clarifying its stance on seat adjustment
with Jamiat-e-ulema Islam (JUI-F) said there was no such development in
this regard.
According to a press statement issued here on Friday, the
partyspokesperson said that the party had not yet made any decision of
electoral adjustment with any political party.
Earlier, it had been reported that the PPP had entered into a political
seat adjustment with the JUI(F) in Dera Ismail Khan, the party official
added.
He said that the report was not correct and no any such accord reached
with any political party on the issue of seat adjustment of any
constituency.
Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmed has said that his party would
never backtrack from its just stance of restoration of the deposed
judges and the constitution. Jamaat-e-Islami would not turn back from
any sacrifice for restoration of the constitution and independent
judiciary, he said in a meeting with a delegation of senior lawyers of
the Supreme Court, headed by prominent lawyers Hamid Khan and Taufiq
Asif here on Friday.
