By Saad Saud
ISLAMABAD—Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri on
Friday met deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad
Chaudhry who was the prime victim of Provincial Constitutional Ordinance
(PCO) here in judges colony.
Sources said that the meeting that lasted more than 1 hour was arranged
by Foreign Ministry on the request of Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to
Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri. During the meeting, the deposed Chief Justice
Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the steps taken by President
Musharraf on November 03 including his house arrest have no legal
backing. He said he and his family members are facing enormous
difficulties due to house arrest while the Government has a stance that
they are free to move. The overall current situation also came under
discussion during the talks between them, sources added. When Government
sources were contacted in this respect they rejected the impression that
the meeting was arranged by the Government and said it was the wish of
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Al Awadh Asseri. |
