Blocked roads opened for public

KARACHI—Nazim Karachi Syed Mustafa Kamal has said that city’s blocked and difficult to access roads have been opened after their econstruction at a cost of Rs 3.5 billion. New openings are being constructed in diffeent areas including Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme-33, Ahsanabad, Maymarabad, New Karachi and Surjani Town after removal of bushes and encroachments and starting construction of 48 feet wide roads which will be completed before December 31, 2007. He talked to media during a visit to development projects of signal free corridor-II Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Scheme-33, Ahsanabad, Maymarabad, New Karachi and Surjani Town. The Nazim pointed out that previously commuters had no access to these thoroughfares and had to walk upto 30 km, but now with the construction of new roads the distance has been reduced to just 3 km.—Online
