Barrister Habib asks NHA,FWO to expedite work on Lyari Expressway

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Communications Barrister Habib-ur-Rehman instructed NHA and FWO authorities on Thursday to expedite the construction work on Lyari Expressway and especially emphasized the need for early opening of South Bound Carriageway of the project.
The Minister said this during inspection tour of under-construction Lyari Expressway Project.Secretary for Communications Sajid Hussain Chattha, Chairman National Highway Authority Major General Imtiaz Ahmed, senior officers of the Ministry and National Highway Authority were also present on the occasion. Barrister Habib-ur-Rehman said, Lyari Expressway is an important project for the Karachi city. Its construction, he said, will not only improve the traffic conditions inside Karachi, but will also contribute towards improving environmental problems. This unique project will further add to the ambiance of Karachi. He expressed his satisfaction over the quality of work but instructed for an early completion of two-lane south bound carriageway of Lyari Expressway. He said that pace of work on this section be accelerated and efforts should be made to remove hurdles especially for early possession of remaining Right of Way in coordination with the Government and the City government. Chairman NHA Major General Imtiaz Ahmed explained the salient features of the project.He elaborated that Lyari Expressway starts from Zero Point Sohrab Goth Bridge on Super Highway and ends at Maripur Road Bridge.
More than 32 Km long this expressway is being executed at the cost of Rs.7.8 billion. He informed, that till now, 67 per cent of Right of Way has been acquired for construction of North Bound Carriageway.The NHA stands committed to early completion of the project, he added.
