Strong accountability system vital to eradicate corruption

RAWALPINDI—The speakers, in a seminar arranged by National Accountability Bureau Rawalpindi on Thursday , stressed the need to have a strong accountability system at all level for eradication of corruption from the society.
Addressing the seminar on the issue of “Eradication of Corruption at the lower / grassroots level of the Local govt System,” Federal Minister forEnvironment and Local Government Syed Wajid Hussain Bukhari said NAB has rightly taken up the issue of corruption in the context of the Local Government System for analysis and sensitization of the stakeholders. This would generate positive dialogue and consequent formulation of remedial measures, he added. He said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is putting in a lot of efforts to sustain and prop-up the nascent system of local government.
He hoped that joint efforts of the NAB,the Ministry of LG&RD and NRB would bear fruit for giving efficient, transparent and accountable system of governance. Zila Nazim Rawalpindi Raja Javed Ikhlas deliberated upon the functioning of the Local Govt System with special emphasis on education, health and land revenue system. DCO Rawalpindi Muhammad Irfan Ellahi explained the loopholes in the functioning of the Local Govt System vulnerable to corruption. Member NRB Islamabad Naeem-ul-Haq deliberated on streamlining the functioning of Local Govt System with a view to minimize corruption.
