Army to set up garrison in Swat

ISLAMABAD—Government has decided for permanent deployment of military in Matta area of Swat. Caretaker Interior Minister Hamid Nawaz talking to media men in Islamabad Wednesday said that the operation in Swat will be continued till elimination of terrorists from the region. He said decision has been made for permanent posting of military in Matta area in Swat and the entire region will be declared the cantonment area.
“ Terrorists are training women suicide bombers in Swat,” he disclosed. The caretaker minister said that the Swat operation is progressing successfully and will be continued till complete eradication of the terrorists from the region. Replying a question regarding detained lawyers, Hamid Nawaz said that eight arrested leaders of lawyers including Aitzaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmed Kurd, Justice Tariq and others will be released within next 72 hours. Talking on preparations of the polls, he said the military could be deployed in the sensitive areas, if needed.
In view of maintaining Law and Order in Swat, Government has decided to deploy Army troops on permanent basis for complete elimination of hideouts of terrorists. An Army Cantonment will be established in Swat, Caretaker Interior Minister Lt General retired Hamid Nawaz announced while talking to Journalists at a local hotel on Wednesday.
Replying to a question, Caretaker Interior Minister said that in view to counter all kinds of extremism, it is extremely necessary to wipe out all the hideouts of terrorists in Swat. He said that Army Cantonment is the need of hour to counter all aggressive measures. Responding to another query, Caretaker Interior Minister said that investigations are underway regarding the suicide bomb blast, first of its kind in which a female suicide Bomber blew herself in a high security zone in Peshawar.
He further made it clear that in next 72 hours Aitizaz Ahsan, Ali Ahmed Khurd, Justice retired Tariq Mehmood and other detainees will be released adding that Government has already released 6000 detained political activists and Lawyers. Replying to a question, Caretaker Interior Minister said that Swat Operation is going on successfully urging that it will continue till it completes its feat. He further added that Provinces have been directed to maintain Law and Order, Code of Conduct in upcoming polls.
At least two security personnel were injured as a result of local Taliban’s attack on scouts fort with rockets and automatic weapons here in Tehsil Mirali in North Waziristan. The security forces retaliated and one shell landed near slum area as a result one person WAS killed and two children injured. BBC while quoting local administration told that all the injured has been shifted to Miranshah Scout hospital. Local authorities told that security forces used tanks during the retaliation. One shell landed in a house of Afghan national near slum area, the local people said adding that situation has intensified in North Waziristan after the breaking of peace agreement between government and local Taliban.
