Continuity of policies to sustain economic upsurge: Soomro

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro has said that the interim government besides its primary responsibility of ensuring conduc atmosphere for the forthcoming general elections has a focused approach towards continuity of economic policies so that the business activities remain unhindered. A sound and healthy economy, he said, is essential for continued pace of progress and prosperity much needed to improve the standards of living of the people.
The Prime Minister was addressing leading businessman and representatives of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here at the Circuit House this afternoon.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the interim government would function within its mandate and ensure peaceful environment before and during the elections and would help facilitate the Election Commission to hold free, fair and transparent elections in the country.
The interim government, he said, would make all out effort to facilitate the political process and facilitate all the political parties to participate in the general elections.
The political parties, he said also have their responsibility towards the people and the country and should play their due role in creating conducive atmosphere for the upcoming elections. The support from any section of the society including the business community, he added, would be welcomed in this regard.
The Prime Minister said that the reforms process and policies introduced to improve economic conditions would continue during the interim period and beyond since the continuity of policies helps the development process. The decisions and policies of the government, he said, should have long term benefit effects in any sector of national life.
The Prime Minister said that business community of Faisalabad has been contributing a lot towards national economy including earning of foreign exchange for the country. He called upon the business community to perform its due role by taking advantage of the economic opportunities and continue their efforts in the economic progress and prosperity of the country during the interim period as well.
The Prime Minister said the government will continue its interaction with the business community despite its commitment towards creating conducive atmosphere for the elections. The government, he said, has to ensure stability in all the sectors of national activity including the economic sector which is vital sector however it is also expected of the businessmen to come forward and facilitate creation of atmosphere under which business can expand further.
The Prime Minister said the present interim government will do everything possible to resolve business related issues which can further boost business activities in the country.
The banking sector, he said, will get all the support from the government to supplement the business activities for the investors, both for local and foreign.
