President
calls for defeat to extremism

QUETTA—President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday underlined that
Extremists will not be allowed to hijack democratic institutions
stressing they would be defeated at any cost. Pak Army has played an
extraordinary role in strengthening the country, President Musharraf
expressed these views during a farewell address to Garrison officials at
Command and Staff College in Quetta on Wednesday.
On the occasion were present Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez
Kayani, Commander Southern Command Lt General Khalid Shamim and other
high officials. Lauding Pak Army, President Musharraf remembered his 46
years in the Pakistan Army terming the period as highly productive and
challenging that has completely transform his life. During his address,
President recalled his affiliations with Command and Staff College,
Quetta.
“I am proud of being the Army Chief of the best Army in the world”,
President said. Pak Army is unassailable, President held. He clear-cut
said that Pakistan Army has accepted all challenges whole-heartedly
stressing that it is playing a remarkable role in FATA and NWFP to
maintain law and order which is the order of the day in the said areas.
Terrorism and Extremism is a menace adding that both are a serious
threat to the country, however we will not let the danger hijack our
democratic institutions at any cost, Musharraf maintained.
He further said that the role of Pak Army has been phenomenal whether in
the case of Sukkar Barrage or October 5 devastating earthquake. He said
that Pak Army has supported the country thick and thin adding that
development projects with its sheer cooperation worth million of rupees
clearly speaks volumes of its credibility in each and every field. He
said that WAPDA was suffering greatly but Pakistan Army played its due
role over there too to make sure that it stands on its feet.
He highly acclaimed the services of Pak Army as it has always stood like
a rock to face all challenges. He said that Pak Army has taken down to
earth steps for rehabilitation in flood hit areas of Balochistan and
Sindh. He further said that he has spent 46 years in Pakistan Army as a
family Member adding that he expects the same from Chief of Army Staff
General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to use all his experience and take Pak Army
to new heights of success.
He urged the officials to work honestly and sincerely. President thanked
the Army Officials and Jawans for their cooperation in their
overwhelming cooperation when he was serving duties as Army Chief of the
country.
President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday expressed his confidence that
the present Election Process would be completed smoothly and the country
would emerge stronger. Addressing the Members of the Balochistan
Care-taker Cabinet here on Wednesday, President expressed the hope that
the development work in Balochistan would continue at a quicker pace and
all on going development projects would be completed on schedule. |
