US envoy not allowed to meet Aitazaz

LAHORE—US Ambassador to Pakistan Ann W Patterson was not allowed to meet President Supreme Court Bar Association Aitazaz Ahsan, who is under house arrest, at his residence here on Monday.
Prominent lawyer and PPP leader was arrested soon after promulgation of emergency in the country on November 3 and later was kept on house arrest at his residence in the provincial capital. US Ambassador Patterson visited Aitazaz Ahsan’s place on Monday however she was not allowed to meet him.
Later on, talking to media persons, Patterson expressed concern over the detention of Aitazaz and other political workers. She said she will request the Pakistan Government to free the detained people so that they can start their campaigns in order to have free and fair elections. The ambassador also expressed her deep concern over the detention of deposed judges and asked for their immediate release.
US Ambassador to Pakistan Anne W. Peterson has urged all the political parities to participate in the upcoming general elections. In a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League (N) Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif here, they discussed the prevailing political situation in Pakistan and the Pak-US relations.
The American Ambassador said her country desires that all the political parties should take part in the elections so that a smooth continuity of the democratic process can be ensured in Pakistan . She said that the United States wants the election in Pakistan to be free, fair and transparent.
