ECP to implement code of conduct: Dilshad

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Dilshad
Monday said that ECP is committed to implementing its code of conduct
during the election process.
The ECP Secretary said the ECP has put ban on transfers and positing of
the government officials during the election period and it is taking
notice on the complaints received in this regard.
He clarified that ban on the transfers and posting is effective from
November 20 and the ECP cannot take action against the complaints prior
to this particular date.
He said that ECP had received some valid complaints in this connection
and notices have been issued to the relevant departments for further
action.
To a question, the ECP Secretary said that 430,000 transparent ballot
boxes of international standard have been imported from China.
He said it will be difficult to mark numbers on the ballot boxes because
they would be transported to every nook and corner throughout the
country.
He said that maximum efforts would be made to set up polling stations in
governments buildings adding in some areas for that purpose, the
candidates would be taken into confidence to set up a polling station at
private place.
Agencies adds, Secretary Election Commission, Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad
has said that printing of ballot papers would start from December 17,
with the declaration of final list of contesting candidates. Talking to
newspaper, he said that as many as 13500 candidates of political parties
and independent candidates submitted their nomination papers for the
upcoming general elections.
Many political parties have also submitted nomination papers of their
covering candidates, and after completion of scrutiny process, it can be
declared that how many contesting candidates are actually in the field,
he added.
According to the data compiled by the Election Commission from four
provinces, nomination papers of 13500 candidates were submitted for
provincial and national assembly seats, Kanwar Dilshad said.
To a question about printing of ballot papers Secretary Election
commission said, with the declaration of final list of the candidates
the process would start after December 16.
After withdrawal, final list would be published on the evening of
December 16 and from December 17, printing of ballot papers would be
started in Pakistan Printing Press and Security Printing Press in the
country. The process will be completed well before January 8, the day
general elections would be held, he said.
To another question he said this time election staff is being imparted
training of world standard. International teams are taking part in the
process, and entire training would be completed by the second week of
December.
As many as 500,000 polling personnel will pass through the training
process, he said adding the training of 70,000 presiding officers would
be completed by December 10. Then, the presiding officers will impart
training to their polling staff. The entire process will be completed by
December 21, 22, he added. |
