Benazir backs Army action in tribal belt

PESHAWAR—Supporting ongoing military operations against militants in trouble tribal areas of the country, Chairperson Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Benazir Bhutto has said that the people of tribal areas are our own people, adding that, her Party want to bring them into the modern age by giving them progress and prosperity.
Addressing the Press conference here in residence of Divisional President PPP Syed Zahir Ali Shah on Sunday, the former Prime Minister said that PPP would enforce Political Party act for bringing the tribal areas into the main stream and political solution would also be found out for the maintenance of peace in FATA.
The courts will be established in FATA, Benazir Bhutto maintained and urged citizens of the country to reject extremists and terrorists and cast vote to her party in the upcoming elections due on January 08.
The Former Prime Minister held those elements responsible for unrest in tribal areas of the country who want to break Pakistan. “Whatever is happening in Swat and the tribal area today”. “The militants can come to Islamabad tomorrow and will the world look on as spectators”. “If Kahuta falls into their hands then what will happened”, Benazir Bhutto questioned.
The PPP chairperson said her Party would definitely participate in the forthcoming elections but expressed her worst apprehension about the transparency of the polls with particular reference to Election Commission of Pakistan and called for the constitution of an independence and impartial election commission.
She urged Political Parties to take part in the elections and block all the ways, which may lead to rigging of the polls. The citizens should move forward to thwart the plan devised by Government to rig the poll at all cost, Benazir Bhutto maintained. The Former Premier rejected the impression that she returned to the homeland by brining American agenda and said that her party aims to restore democracy in the country. PPP will put Pakistan on the track of development by eliminating poverty, unemployment and inflation after coming into power, Bhutto pointed out. The office bearers and activist of Party should ensure implementation on decision taken by the leadership, she said.
She castigated what she termed the elements trying to weaken the PPP and said any attempt in this regard amounted to weaken the country. Welcoming doffing of military uniform by President Musharraf and his decision to lift emergency rule in the country, she said, the movement against dictatorship will be continued in future.
Benazir Bhutto while expressing her angst on the Judges’ arrests and the curbs on media, urged upon the release of the Judges and lifting of the ban on media. Responding to a question, Chairperson PPP went on to say that she has no information about rejection of nomination papers of Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
Chairperson Pakistan Peoples Party and former Prime Minister, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto visited Wali Bagh here Sunday and condoled with Begium Nasim Wali Khan over the sad demise of her husband and great Pakhtuns nationalist leader, Khan Abdul Wali Khan.
Paying rich tributes to the political services of late Wali Khan who died at the age of 89 in Peshawar in last week of January, 2006 due to prolonged illness, Bhutto said the great nationalist leader had never compromised on his principles and always fought for the supremacy of democracy and rights of the oppressed nationalities.
She remained with Begium Nasim Wali and Sangeen Wali Khan for sometime and offered Fateha for departed soul of the nationalist leader. She prayed Allah Almighty to may rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to members to bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with patience.
