Dr Amjad denies to support PML-Q candidate

ISLAMABAD—Caretaker Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination, Dr Muhammad Amjad has categorically refuted the allegations of supporting a PML-Q candidate in the forthcoming elections.
Talking to newsmen, he said that it was totally unethical to support or oppose any candidate or party by a Minister of Caretaker setup. To a question about allegations levelled by PPP candidate Syed Nayyar Bukhari in which he had claimed that Dr. Amjad was supporting PML-Q candidate Mustafa Khokhar in NA 49 constituency, and providing official support to his opponents he said, “I belong to Islamabad, and after becoming Minister my friends are organizing receptions for me. My participation in such functions should not be considered that I am supporting someone”. He said, he was President of PML-Q Islamabad, but after taking oath as a minister he had resigned from the office and party. And Shafique Chaudhry the Vice President of PML-Q had automatically become the President. Shafique Chaudhry is now conducting party affairs and he (the minister) has nothing to do with such activities, he added.
He said, he only had attended functions of Chamber of Commerce, and other trade union programmes and never accepted invitation for any PML-Q programme. The minister said he would contact Syed Nayyar Bukhari personally and clear all misunderstandings and allegations about his conduct.
He said that President Pervez Musharraf had clearly directed them to remain neutral and not favour any candidate participating in the upcoming elections. He added that he was committed to it. He said, he was President of PML-Q Islamabad, but after taking oath as a minister he had resigned from the office and party. And Shafique Chaudhry the Vice President of PML-Q had automatically become the President. Shafique Chaudhry is now conducting party affairs and he (the minister) has nothing to do with such activities, he added.
