UNICEF provide funds for eradication of polio

ISLAMABAD—The Government of Japan will provide funds to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for eradication of polio Pakistan and MoU will be signed in a ceremony today (Monday).
The Federal Minister for Health, Ejaz Rahim will witness the ceremony while the Ambassador of Japan, Seiji Kojima and the UNICEF
Representative, Martin Mogwanja will sign and exchange notes. Secretary Health, Khushnood Akhtar Lashari will also be present on the occasion.
It is noted that Pakistan is among the four countries where polio is considered as epidemic. At least eighteen cases have been registered in this year in Pakistan whereas seven hundred sixty three children have been reported in the world.
At least four hundred eleven in India, two hundred thirty five un Nigeria, twelve in Chad, thirty eight in Congo, twelve in Afghanistan, nine in Sudan, eight each in Angola and Somalia.—APP
