Quake jolts Capital, NWFP

PESHAWAR—A moderate earthquake jolted Pakistan’s capital and the northwest Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
Tremors were felt in Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, Mingora and various other north-western areas. The quake measured magnitude 5.0 and was centered in the Hindu Kush mountains of neighboring Afghanistan, a sparsely populated region where earthquakes are common.
The epicenter was 250 km northwest of Pakistan’s northwestern city of Peshawar. Residents felt brief tremors in Islamabad, Peshawar and the towns of Kohat and Chitral in North West Frontier Province. Police in Chitral said they had no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
Earthquake of moderate frequency jolted Northern Areas including Federal Capital and Peshawar city here on Sunday evening.
The intensity of the earthquake at richter scale was recorded 5.0 which remain at scale for 25 seconds, said a private TV Channel report. No loss of life or property have been reported from any area. However, epicenter of the earthquake has been identified in Western Koh Hindu Kush mountain rangers.
