Exhibition held to mark World AIDS Day

RAWALPINDI—To mark World AIDS day, an exhibition of 50 posters and a theater play to create awareness among the masses about dangers of the diseases and adopting preventive measures was organized here on Saturday.
The event was organized under the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) by the Ministry of Health at Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC), while the Minister for Population Welfare, Dr.A J Khan was the chief guest on the occasion.
Dr. A J Khan, highlighting the importance of the event said, World AIDS Day is important in reminding people to protect themselves and their loved ones from HIV and AIDS.
He appreciated the efforts of students for their art work depicting various themes related to the disease which would serve as a source of providing information for general public.
“Government has initiated a number of projects for college students and street youth in order to sensitize them about the issues related to HIV and AIDS for promoting healthy behaviors among them,” he added.
The theater play was based on the theme of “Youth can make the difference in fighting against HIV and AIDS” in which the importance of the books based on preventive measures from the disease in young generation was highlighted.
Short stories and speeches presented after the play, stressed the need for providing complete and correct information to the colleges and other educational institutions to control the growing threat of HIV and AIDS among the youth.
Later the chief guest distributed prizes and certificates among the participants of the poster exhibition and theater performers.
Keeping in view the campaign against HIV in the public eye for treating and slowing the spread of the disease, the NACP has organized a number of activities in different parts of the country to educate the people from different walks of life.
