By Hina Kiyani
ISLAMABAD—Pakistan, for the first time, participated in the 29th Tri
Continental Film Festival in Nantes, France, which is traditionally held
every year. According to a message received from France, Pakistan
presented its four films titled Gumnam, Koyal, Mutthi Bahar Chaval and
Khuda Kay Liye which were highly appreciated by art-lovers as well as
people hailing from different walks of life.
Renowned film artist Reema, TV artist Jamal Shah and producer Shireen
Pasha also participated in the festival. The prime objective of the
participation was to project the real image of Pakistan’s national
identity to the world featuring the cherished values of peace, tolerance
and co-existence.
The four films selected by Pakistan were produced during half a century
time including Gumnam, directed by Anwar Kamal Pasha in 1954, Koel,
directed by Masood Pervez in 1959, Muthi Bher Chawal directed by
Ms.Sangeeta in 1978 and Khuda Kay Liye directed by Shoaib Mansoor in
2007.
Besides Pakistan, several countries from Europe, Latin America and Asia
including India, Brazil, Japan and Egypt have sent their entries either
in documentary or feature form of film. A number of cultural exchanges
have been undertaken amongst the friendly states and Pakistan whereas
the participation in the
Tri Continental International Film Festival in France is part of this
series. The organizers of the festival were optimistic about the inbuilt
potentials of the festival which as a tool could enhance not only the
multilateral friendship amongst the comity of the nations but also
opening of new chapter of trade and commerce through cinematographic
products in the tri continental region.
The Embassy of Pakistan in France also hosted a reception in honour of
the Pakistani artisans who participated in the festival while the
reception was also attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to France. |
