NGOs urged to launch awareness drive for voters

ISLAMABAD—Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad on Saturday called upon representatives of the NGOs to launch an aggressive awareness campaign at grassroots level for education of voters particularly the women and marginalised groups.
He said this will help motivate them to take part in electoral precess and exercise their right of vote in the best interest of the country.
Addressing a workshop arranged by the SNEP project, Kanwar Dilshad gave an overview of the whole electoral process and the arrangements being made for holding free,fair and transparent elections in the country.
He said intensive training is being imparted under the cascade programme by two members team comprising a professional trainer and technical trainer in collaboration with the polling personnel.
He said for the first time in the electoral history of Pakistan, the ECP is introducing 350,000 transparent ballot papers during the upcoming general elections.
He said this historic decision of introducing new arrangements by provision of improved electoral commodities will revolutionize the electoral process and enhance the credibility of the Election Commission for holding free,fair and transparent elections.—Agencies
