Mimo show enthralls audience with creative theater language
By Uzma Zafar

ISLAMABAD—A solo wordless performance, featuring the life of a character “Mimo” held here on Wednesday evening with creative poetic and physical theater language at National Art Gallery (NAG).
The play was jointly organized by Netherlands Embassy and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), in which the group performed its newest creation “Mimo”, staged and directed by Carlos Lagoeiro. The group of Teatro Munganga, a Dutch theater company based in Amsterdam, combines emotion, expression, acting, music, dance, puppets, surprising backdrops, props and humor to tell stories that illustrate the magic and poetry of life. The show focused on the character called “Mimo”, who has reached a stage in his life where he can no longer hold onto (painful) memories from the past.
His memories are interfering with his life and he decides to put some things to rest from his childhood and this quest takes Mimo on a journey to the four corners of the globe where he gradually puts his painful memories to rest and in the process grows in a positive manner.
“For me, Mimo is a visual experience and interaction with my audience while the basic concept is that memory is the emotional legacy of every human being,’ said Carlos Lagoeiro.
“The performance gives the public an opportunity to create a space for their own experiences and help them to put visuals on their own memories,” he remarked. The central themes focused on educational material accompanying the plays so that students can further explore the themes dealt within the performance after the theater visit.
Keeping this in mind after the performance of the group, a talk on the creative process of Mimo was held here on Thursday by the Conceptual Artist, Marion Hoekveld and Carlos Lagoeiro.
The “talk” was a special event addressing all the theater groups and visual artists in the city to provide innovative ideas for local theater productions and further improvements.
