Need stressed to promote citrus production, marketing

ISLAMABAD—Chairman Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) Dr.M.E. Tusneem has said that like mango, citrus crop should also be promoted from production to marketing.
He was talking to Research Programme Manager Horticulture, Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), Lex Baxter who called on him here Thursday.
Lex Baxter is currently on a visit to Pakistan to evaluate the ongoing citrus and mango projects under the Agriculture Sector Linkages Programme (ASLP), a joint venture for promoting the farm sector by the governments of Pakistan and Australia. The programme is funded by ACIAR.
The Chairman PARC on the occasion hailed Baxter’s efforts for the smooth progress of the ASLP projects and discussed with him in detail, the mango and citrus projects.Lex Baxter expressed his satisfaction over the ongoing progress of projects and suggested some inputs for further improvements, especially of the citrus project. He said mango project was making good progress, while the Citrus Project was quite slow and needed some advance steps. However, he acknowledged that partially this was due to the funding prob.
