EC received 13,490 nomination papers

ISLAMABAD—For general election 2008,the Election Commission has received a total of 13,490 nomination papers for National Assembly and for Provincial Assemblies constituencies, Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad Dilshad told APP on Thursday.
He said that a total of 4118 nomination papers have beenfiled for 265 NA seats while 9372 nomination papers have beenfiled for provincial assemblies constituencies. It may be mentioned that the EC has extended dates forfiling nomination papers for seven National Assembly seats and 11 provincial assemblies seats of Swat,Shangla and Hangu districtsand Kurram and North Waziristan Agencies.
For the two National Assembly constituencies from Federal Capital 64 nomination papers have been filed. For 148 NA seats from the Punjab 2019 nomination papers have been filed,for 61 NAseats from Sindh 990,for 35 NA seats from NWFP 561 papers have been filed, for 12 NA seats from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) 191 nomination papers have been filed while 293 nomination papers have been filed for 14 NA seats from Balochistan. As far as provincial assemblies are concerned,4517nomination papers have been filed for the Punjab Assembly,2293 for Sindh Assembly,1556 for NWFP Assembly,and 1006 for BalochistanAssembly,he added.
Secretary Election Commission informed that a total of 1001nomination papers have been filed for seats reserved for women in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.For seats reservedfor women in the National Assembly 301 nomination papers have been filed while for the provincial assemblies the number stands at700, he said. For seats reserved for women in the Punjab Assembly a totalof 399 nomination papers have been filed,for reserved seats in Sindh 138,for reserved seats for women in NWFP Assembly 110 papershave been filled while 53 nomination papers have been filed for seats reserved for women in Balochistan,said Kanwar Dilshad.
