PFUJ vows to continue struggle

ISLAMABAD—The journalists Community held a protest rally against emergency rule and curbs on media here on Thursday.
A large number of journalists including representatives of civil societies, political workers marched from Press Club to PEMRA Head Office.
The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans of freedom of speech and anti-government slogans. Secretary General Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) Mazhar Abbas while addressing the protest rally said that journalists struggle which was started months back against the restrictions on media would continue till they do not achieve their goal. Mazhar Abbas said that to get signatures from some of the Private Channels under the PCO and restoring their transmission does not mean that government has freed the media.
President RIUJ, Afzal Butt said that after doffing the uniform, President wants to give impression to International Community that there is real democracy in Pakistan. However, he said that restoration of real democracy depends on restoration of those 55 Judges who do not take oath under the PCO. He demanded from the government to immediately withdraw the PEMRA Amended Ordinance 2007 and Press & Publication Ordinance, otherwise journalists would continue their protests demonstration. Later on, they marched from Melody Press Club to PEMRA Head Office where renowned Journalists Talat Hussain presented his programme “ Live With Talat” with the title “Role of Political Parties in the Current Situation of Pakistan”.
