PIA’s unbeaten run; KPT manage 3-2 win

LAHORE—PIA failed to hold their unbeaten run in the Pakistan Premier
League when they went down 0-2 against holders Pakistan Army at Korangi
Baloch Stadium, Karachi on Wednesday.
Army held an upperhand in the closely-contested match and airliners did
well to halt the soldiers from scoring in the first half.But they
crumbled under pressure in the second half and conceded two goals, said
the information provided here by Pakistan Football Federation.
Muhammad Shabbir opened the scoring in the 49th minute and midfielder
Abid Ali fired home the second on the stroke of final whistle. Army
managed 21 points from 11 matches while Tariq Lutfi-managed PIA, playing
top Division soccer after 2003, yielded 11 from 8 games.
Karachi Port Trust managed another win in the competition when they
overran Lahore’s Wohaib FC 3-2 despite valiant effort of Hafiz Salman
Butt’s outfit in later stages at CDGK Stadium, Karachi. Striker Zafar
Majeed joined Naimat Ullah (PTV), Zulfiqar Ali Shah (WAPDA), Ishtiaq
Ahmed (HBL), Sajjad Ahmed (Navy), Arif Mehmood (WAPDA) in the list of
players scoring five goals with two against Wohaib FC within 35 minutes.
He gave KPT the lead in the fourth minute and added another after half
an hour later. Muhammad Zahid gave more agony to local outfit with third
in the 38th minute.
But spirited Wohaib staged comeback and reduced arrears through Usman in
the next minute. KPT led 3-1 at interval and Wohaib netted their second
in the 89th minute through Rizwan Asif. KPT also produced 21 points from
nine matches while Lahore’s Wohaib FC, still moving around relegation
zone, made only three points from their nine outings.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Football Federation League saw Lahore’s PEL scoring
smashing 3-0 win over Wah’s POF at beautiful-setting of Model Town
Academy Ground, Lahore . All the goals appeared in the second session.
Spearhead Muzaffar opened the scoring in the 49th minute when his drive
went into left corner via steelwork, leaving POF’s captain and keeper
Muhammad Aslam stranded. Nine minutes later, winger Amir Hamza cut the
ball back from goal-line and Sarwar fired the ball in to make it 2-0.
Winger Nadeem rounded off the tally with diving header past Aslam’s
outstretched hands in the final minute of the game. Pakistan Steel edged
out Pakistan Police 2-0 at Steel Township Ground, Karachi with scorers
being striker Arshed (8th min) and midfielder Akram (65th min).
