CM takes notice of wheat crisis

KARACHI—Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (Rtd) Abdul Qadir Halepota Wednesday said that although wheat is available in stock in Sindh, he has asked the Federal government to provide additional 300,000 tons to meet the Province’s future requirements. He said wheat production this year had been less than the expected estimates and its prices were also affected in the open market, particularly during Ramazan, because of wheat export policy. The Sindh Government, Justice Halepota said, took timely measures and asked the federal government to ensure wheat supply to Sindh through alternate sources of PASCO as well as through import. The caretaker Chief Minister observed that because of growing demand for wheat in other Provinces, its rates are seen increasing in the open market and keeping the existing situation in view, Sindh government needs additional wheat for which its available stocks are insufficient while still there is still time for arrival of new crop.—Online
