Change of command to further strengthen institutions: Nisar

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon has
said that smooth transition of command of Pakistan Army would further
strengthen the country and the institutions.
The Minister expressed these views while briefing the ambassadors from
Arab Countries here on the current situation in the country in light of
the change of command that has taken place at the GHQ on Wednesday
morning whereby President General Pervez Musharraf relinquished his post
as Chief of Army Staff and General Ashfaq Kianai took-over as the new
Chief of Army Staff.
The Minister reiterated the commitment of President Musharraf to
democracy as well as the pledge of caretaker government of Pakistan
headed by Prime Minister Mohammedmian Soomro to hold free, fair,
transparent
and independent polls so that the people of Pakistan could exercise
their free will to elect their representatives in the next general
elections.
“The Arab ambassadors expressed full support to Pakistan in its
transition to civilian rule under the courageous leadership of President
Pervez Musharraf who has been guiding Pakistan to full democracy in the
face of great odds,” said the group in a joint press statement.
Meanwhile, Turkish Ambassador Engin Soysal paid a courtesy call on
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Nisar A. Memon here at the
latter’s office. Both the leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual
interest. The Minister hoped that traditionally cordial relations
between Pakistan and Turkey will continue to grow and further be
strengthened. |
