Militants on
run, radio station captured

PESHAWAR—The security forces in Swat are consolidating their gains and
positions and are making steady progress as they reached the built up
area located in the foothills of Najia Top.
The local population of the area has made contacts with the troops in
their areas and has extended full support to them in order to root out
these militants from their area. In Nigalai area and in the foothill of
Usamnai Sar, security forces have established strong positions thus
dominating Ningwali - Shakardara Road with full strength. During the
day, militant’s locations around Manam Deri, Kuza Bandai, Bara Bandai,
Saigram and Ningwalai areas were extensively engaged with artillery fire
and gunship helicopters thus inflicting heavy casualties on them.
Continued successful operations of the security forces have destroyed
militant’s strong locations and they are in the state of despair and are
trying to flee form the area. Owning to genuine problems of the locals,
civil administration has been instructed to issue permits to all the
Presidents of trade unions for the supplies of commodities of daily use.
Medical superintendent has been instructed to make available ambulances
to all patients.
Security forces have also provided 6 additional ambulances to the
hospital authorities for this purpose. Over 95% of the population is fed
up with the militants and wants them to be expelled form their areas at
all costs. All possible efforts are in hand, to avoid collateral damage
to the lives and property of the innocent people. Brave and proud people
of Swat have been asked to cooperate with the security forces on already
established check posts in order to differentiate between innocent
masses and the militants.
Masses are once again requested to remain calm and determined and join
hands with security forces to flush out the militant from their areas.
Security forces have captured a strategic mountain from militants in the
Swat valley and shut down the radio station of Maulana Fazlullah. A
private television channel quoted the NWFP government on Tuesday as
saying that the security forces had secured more towns and seized Najia
top, the highest peak in a district that has been a stronghold of
militant cleric Maulana Fazlullah. “The area between Kanju and Najia Top
has been successfully secured,” the provincial government said in a
statement.
Local residents and Pakistan Television said Fazlullah’s pirate radio
station, from which he preaches holy war against the government, had
also been shut down. Government forces have stepped up their offensive
in the area during the past several days, using artillery and helicopter
gunships to drive the insurgents out of their mountain strongholds.
The militants have abandoned bunkers established by them on four points
near Saidu Sharif Airport and moved to unknown places. The security
forces after that have taken the control of Najia Top while the ratio
station of Maulana Fazlullah has also been shut down. According to the
information, the religious leader Maulana Fazlullah had announced on FM
Radio Station that his supporters are leaving the bunkers established in
Imam Dheri, Koza Bandi and Bra Bandi. He said that the decision has been
taken after a meeting of Shoora aiming to avoid loss of live of common
people.
Meanwhile, the team of the journalists visiting Imam Dhari, Koza Bandi
and Bara Bandi on Tuesday morning has confirmed that all the areas
situated near Saidu Sharif have been evacuated. A Foreign News Agency
while quoting the provincial Government has told that the security
forces have taken the control of two more towns and seized Najia Top,
the highest peak in a district that has been a stronghold of Maulana
Fazlullah. According to the local people and the State Television, the
radio station of Maulana Fazlullah has been shut down on which anti
Government messages were being broadcasted. |
