Eying new
term, President takes final salutes

RAWALPINDI—President General Musharraf, who is quitting the Army Chief
office tomorrow, Tuesday paid farewell visits as Army Chief to the
headquarters of the armed forces. His first stop Tuesday was at the
Joint Staffs headquarters, where Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
Committee Gen. Tariq Majyd received him. He also takes the salute at a
farewell parade
He discussed professional and matters of mutual interest with the
Chairman JCSC. He was also presented souvenir of the Joint Staffs
headquarters. Musharraf later paid a farewell visit to the Naval
Headquarters. He met Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal
Tahir and the Principal Staff Officers at the Naval Headquarters. Gen.
Musharraf paid a farewell visit to the Air Headquarters. He was
presented a guard of honour. He met Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief
Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed and other senior officers at the Air
Headquarters. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen. Tariq Majyd
will host a dinner tonight in the honour of President Gen. Pervez
Musharraf. Musharraf will chair a corps commanders’ conference on
Wednesday at GHQ before handing over the COAS charge to Gen. Ashfaq
Pervez Kayani. Gen. Kayani was appointed as VCOAS last month and
promoted to the rank of four-star general. Gen. Musharraf took command
of the Pakistan Army on October 7, 1998 after resignation of the then
COAS General Jehangir Karamat. He will take oath as civilian president
on Thursday.
President General Pervez Musharraf Tuesday paid a farewell visit at the
Naval Headquarters in his series of visits to the military headquarters.
General Musharraf was presented a guard of honour. Later, he met Chief
of the Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Afzal Tahir and the Principal Staff
Officers at the Naval Headquarters. They also exchanged souvenirs.
Chief of Army Staff General Pervez Musharraf will give a farewell
address in the Special Conference of Corps Commanders meeting being held
on Wednesday (today) in GHQ Rawalpindi. President Musharraf will address
his last Corps Commander meeting in the simple but dignified ceremony.
He will thank all the Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers in
the Conference.
It is pertinent to mention that President Musharraf will take oath as
Civilian President on November 29 (Thursday) for a second five-year
term. He will hand over his uniform to Ishfaq Pervaiz Kiyani, however he
(Kiyani) will formally take charge of his post after President Musharraf
takes oath as Civilian President on Thursday. In the meantime, President
Musharraf will give a farewell call to Vice Chief of Army Staff General
Ishfaq Kiyani in GHQ, Rawalpindi.
Former Federal Minister for Railways and leader of PML(Q) Sheikh Rashid
Ahmed said Tuesday that President Musharraf will take oath on Thursday
and will become a new civilian President. Talking to a private TV
channel he said that politics in the country will start with a new
approach because a new triangle is being made in the country. |
