1000 buffalos die mysteriously

KARACHI—More than 1000 buffalos have died in cattle colony during the last three days, apparently due to poisoning of fodder, dairy farmers said here Tuesday. Joint Secretary, Karachi Dairy Farmers Association, Shaukat Mukhtar said according to initial investigations, the bread waste which is mixed with other ingredients to make fodder, did have some poisonous material. He said 100 buffalos of bread waste supplier and a dairy farmer have also been killed due to poisonous material. Mukhtar said the legs of all the victims were paralysed before they died. This shows that their central nervous system was damaged due to poison, he added. To a question whether dairy farmers sought medical examinations of the deceased buffalos from any laboratory, he said that there is no such laboratory in the Cattle Colony. He said cattle farmers mostly use the traditional methods to treat their herd. There is a veterinary hospital in Cattle Colony, but it does not have laboratory facility. In this case, the hospital did not have any medicine to treat these buffalos, he pointed out.—Agencies
