Shabana wins first gold medal Inter-Region Girls Athletic

PESHAWAR—Shabana of Mardan won first gold medal in the NWFP Inter-Region Girls Athletics Championship, which got underway here at Qayyum Sports Complex.
Shabana grabbed gold medal in 400m race and faced tough resistance against Nighat of Peshawar, Abeer of Mardan, Samreen of Bannu and Sadia of Peshawar.
Shabana won the gold medal, followed by Abeer of Peshawar while Samreen and Sadia jointly won bronze medals. Besides 400m, in the 800m Nosheen of Bannu, Tehmeena of Kohat and Sumera of Peshawar won gold, silver and bronze medals while in the 4X100m relay, Mardan team comprising Mehnaz, Shaista, Lubna and Nighat grabbed gold medal, followed by Peshawar team including Sadia, Sumera, Saba and Maria while Bannu grabbed the bronze medal. Bannu team comprises Sambreen Ayaz, Nosheeen Zaman, Nazia Rehman and Rahat.
In the Javelin throw Samreen Ayaz took first position, followed by Nighat of Mardan and Sheeba of Kohat while in the Long Jump Shabana of Mardan, Ishrat of Mardan and Tahira of Peshawar claimed gold, silver and bronze medals. Earlier, Directress Sports NWFP Women Sports Directorate Rashida Ghaznavi was the chief guest on this occasion and formally inaugurated the Championship in which teams from six regions, Mardan, Hazara, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and host Peshawar are taking part while team from Malakand did not turn-up due to unrest situation. Women officials comprising former National athlete Maria Samin Jan, Miss Najma (Peshawar), Mrs. Sajida (Charsadda), former national athlete Mrs. Gul Nar (Mardan), Mrs. Husan Pari (Bannu), Miss Rizwana (Malakand) and Miss Shamim Akhtar (Kohat) are officiating the event.
