Deepika Vs Sonam: A war over Ranbir?

BOMBAY—We delve behind the scenes to find out what exactly is behind the Deepika-Sonam cold war. The cold war between Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor has taken... a new leap with Deepika passing snide remarks about Sonam. At a product launch, recently, when Deepika was asked about comparisons between Sonam and her, Deepika answered, “People should stop comparing the two of us because I’m not from this industry and have achieved everything on my own. I have no filmi connections nor a godfather! Our movie genres are also different.”
Both Sonam and Deepika’s debut films, Saawariya and Om Shanti Om, released on the same day. While Deepika’s film has fared well both in terms of box-office collections as well as critical responses Sonam’s Saawariya was a disappointment.
Maybe that’s why Deepika hinted that despite being an outsider in Bollywood she’s achieved more than star-kid Sonam! But did she have to say it in so many words?
But Sonam seems to be more mature than Deepika. Her reply to Deepika’s snide remark is, “It’s okay, it doesn’t rattle me. Everybody has their own destiny. Deepika may not like me but I like her.”
Sources in the industry say that Sonam despite being a star-kid is well-grounded whilst Deepika has already earning notoriety thanks to her attitude problem.
A film-maker reveals: “Sonam conducts herself well, is easily accessible, replies to SMSs promptly, always answers the phone and has no starry airs. Whereas Deepika is heavily guarded and inaccessible; the only way to get through to her is via her manager Piya. And the manager is as difficult to get hold of and never replies to messages. A debut opposite Shah Rukh and Deepika has started behaving like a star already.”
If you think that the Deepika – Sonam war is just another case of professional rivalry then you’re wrong! There’s more to this story than what meets the eye. Apparently the main cause of friction between the two young ladies is Ranbir Kapoor.
Ranbir and Sonam, reportedly, were a couple while they were assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Black.
Then Ranbir left India for studies abroad and the couple grew apart.
When the duo started working on Saawariya old feelings were revived but Ranbir was dating Deepika then.
Then came the much publicised street fight between Deepika’s ex-Nihar Pandya and Ranbir which soured their relationship.
A family friend of Ranbir reveals, “He was always in love with Sonam, but they broke-off because Bhansali wanted them to concentrate on their debuts with a strong contract that their private lives would be kept private with no distractions.
Ranbir then dated Deepika for a while but their affair became too public and Ranbir’s parents weren’t comfortable with it. Deepika blames Sonam for stealing Ranbir from her and has never forgiven her.”
Latest buzz is that post Saawariya’s release Ranbir and Sonam have now revived their relationship and are seeing each other. The source continues, “they have known each other for a long time and are quite serious about each other.”
Are Deepika’s constant digs at Sonam because of Ranbir? After all Deepika at present is more popular than Sonam so why the constant snide remarks?
