CDA to launch drive against chappar hotels
By Asim Hussain
ISLAMABAD—The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will shortly launch a
drive against unauthorized chappar hotels across the federal capital.
A CDA official told APP on Monday said the people running suchhotels are
not registered with the Authority, so it causes security concerns for
the citizens as miscreants may also use such places for any unlawful
activity.
He said about 122 such hotels are registered with the Authority.
Authority has issued notices to the illegal hotels, which would be razed
after the deadline. He said the Authority has repeatedly asked them for
registrationbut they turned deaf ear to the notices. He said those who
are registered have to pay minimal charges to the Authority depending
upon their size and location. He said most of the chappar hotels are
situated besides offices and publicplaces under the thick shadow of
trees. He said these hotels also serve unhygienic food that is
alsoalarming for the people of the capital city. He said some of the
registered hotels have also grabbed theadjacent land without permission
that would be got vacated shortly.
The owners of these hotels negate the CDA’s version saying thatthey have
to pay huge amount per month to the Authority, which sometime seems
impossible for them. Authority has also planned an anti-encroachment
drive in thecommercial areas of the federal capital in order to ensure
pedestrian’s rights. He said in start the Authority will concentrate on
the AbparaMarket, Blue Area and Karachi Company. |
