National Women Basketball Championship in Hyderabad from 25th

LAHORE—National Women Basketball Championship will be held from November 25 to December 30 at the courts of Hyderabad club.
The premier annual activity will be participated by four provinces, Islamabad, Police, Wapda, Higher Education Commission, said Lt Col (retd) Muhammad Nasim Butt, Secretary, Pakistan Basketball Federation while talking to APP here on Friday. He said Punjab is the defending champion and wapda is likely to throw a strong challenge in their quest to regain glory because of their teams better strength and preparations.
PBBF official said Syed Zia, Secretary Sindh Basketball Association has been named as Organising Secretary while Naeem Sheikh will act as Chairman technical Commission. Nasim Butt said outstanding players will be picked to undergo training at a camp. “ We are endeavouring to arrange a visit of our women team to Sri Lanka or Bangladesh next year to impart them training besides giving them exposure”, he said. “ Our women basketball is in initial stages and it is the right time to enlarge the span of its activities by having maximum activities at home and to ensure their participation in events abroad”, he added.
PBBF Secretary said the national women senior basketball championship will be played here from December 27 at Railways stadium. The participating teams are four provinces, Islamabad,
AJK, Army, PAF, Navy, Railways, Police , Wapda and Higher Education Commission, POF Wah, KESC and Habib Bank Limited. Last years champions Army are likely to play runners up Wapda in the final because both of the teams are number one and two in national ranking.
He said the championship will serve as trials to pick players for undergo training for Pakistan’s participation in the Asian Basketball Championship qualifying round to be held next year. The venue of the event has yet to be decided by the Asian body.—Agencies
